Vomiting Since I Have Taken Medicine For Cold. Does Acetaminophen And Phenylephrine Have Any Side Effects?

I took two Robitussin tablets ( acetaminophen & phenylephrine ) for a cold , about an hour and a half later I was puking my guts out ( about 6 times in 3 hours ) and felt like I was going to die. I have had similar reactions in the past to cold meds but never knew what the key ingredient was . Now that I know its the Phenylephrine is there anything else I should know are do ? thanks

Hi and thanks for the query,

All drugs do have side effects. However, for this particular circumstance, I think the drugs (this combination) is very appropriate. If taken correctly as prescribed by your physician or pharmacist, you should obtain relief within a few days. Persistence of aggravation of symptoms might necessitate a review by your physician. It is not unusual however to feel a bit tired after a cold. Morning doses of Vitamin C could help in reducing excessive tiredness. A vegetable and fruit rich diet while keeping warm are my advice.

You nee to be calm and consult your doctor in case you still feel bad or worried in couple of days. thanks and kind regards. Best of health.

Hello,
The most likely cause for your vomiting is gastritis caused by acetaminophen and specially if it is taken on empty stomach.
You should always take this medicine on stomach full.
Take some proton pump inhibitor like PANTOPROZOLE 40 mg once a day for 4-5 days. There is nothing to worry for this.
You must be cautious in future regarding This as it may cause acute ulceration which may bleed also.
Thanks
