Back Pain, Difficulty Passing Urine. Urine Test Shows High WBC. Burning Urination

I started with severe pain in my back, (right side) then felt like I could not pass urine, went to a urgent clinic, he took a urine sample said it was ok, slight high in white blood cells so he took a cathater sample from my bladder and said it was clear. the pain is still on the right side back and now feels like it is painful and burning when I try to urinate.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

The presence of WBC in your urine indicates an infection. Pain in the lower back region is also a symptom of an infection. Let me list some of the other common symptoms for you to relate to, they are:
-Burning sensation while urinating
-Frequent urination
-Increased urge to urinate, but less amount of urine passed
-Chills
-Fever
-Lower abdominal and/or flank region pain
-Itching around the genitals
-Blood in urine or immediately after (not always seen)
This will require treatment with antibiotics if the infection-causing organism is of bacterial origin, pain relieving medication and a urine alkalizer.

Although, I would also like to add, especially because the pain is on one side of the back; i.e. the right side. This is the location of your kidney, and this could possibly mean your kidney is also involved, although we cannot confirm the same with further investigations. I would advise a KUB ultrasound (kidney, ureter, bladder) and a blood test of your kidney function.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
