Diagnosed With Ulcerative Colitis, Had Bloody Diarrhea, Vomiting, Started Prednisone, Omeprazole. Right Dosage ?

12 year old boy diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and also campylobacter jejuni. colonoscopy and endoscope confirmed however I wonder if it was the bacteria infection. He did have bloody diarrhea and vomiting started just before diagnosis. started prednisone 40mg (down to 10 as of two days ago), asacol (not sure of dosage) Pepcid, omeprazole, gel enema, benadryl, bentyl, Percocet, Lexapro and low dose anti anxiety. He is my grandson so I do not know the exact dosages on all meds. This started late May 2013 with the first hospital trip. He is having severe burning sensations inside and skin turns bright red, mostly upper body and face. Is this normal? His second hospital trip, doctor increased prednisone to 60 mg (from 30 at the time) and two days later his GI put him back to 30. CatScan showed healing. He has a new doctor at a well known childrens hospital but this doctor is on vacation. An appointment has been made for next week. Wondering if he needs to get to hospital or wait. Also started GAPS diet this week to heal the gut. Any advice appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, it appears that the colon is hypersensitiv, he should be under the controle of the diet, like avoid taking spices, junk foods, and oily foods.
Though not documented avoid milk and milk products, gluten containing foods like wheet and barley. If it helps it is O.K. if not no problem.
ask him to take more of curd, and water. Thank you.
