What Could Be The Treatment For Severe Constipation?

I am 20 years old. I have been searching for help with a digestive issue and have just about exhausted my bank account. I battled with eating disorders on and off for years. One summer I ate only 5 meals a week all summer long. After that summer I had trouble with constipation and water retention at times. A doctor prescribed Miralax every morning for the constipation and I found that if I drank a lot of water and followed the same schedule every day it was manageable Last year I went away to college and obviously, my schedule changed. I assumed that my body would adjust, but instead the Miralax stopped working and I stopped having bowel movements all together. I drank a lot of water to try to get a bowel movement, but had no luck. This lasted for two weeks until I ended up in the hospital with severe hyponatremia. The hospital gave me laxatives/ Miralax to relieve the constipation and sent me back to school a few days later (once my electrolytes were balanced). After that, I found ways to manage by taking Miralax in the morning and drinking excessive amounts of water each day, but my body was never the same. I have gained almost 30 pounds, and I think it is all water retention. I haven t had a solid bowel movement in a year and a half. When I have a bowel movement , it is essentially colored liquid with almost no consistency to it. My bowels are never empty. I have to follow the same schedule every day in order to not have severe abdominal pain- I take Miralax first thing in the morning, wait 10 minutes, have an apple and 2 cups of coffee, drink a 16 oz glass of water, wait 2 hours, do some light exercises, drink another 16 oz glass of water with my vitamins, do some more light exercises, drink a cup of hot tea, drink a 16 oz glass of water, do some more light exercises, drink another 16 oz glass of water. I have to follow this exact schedule every day or I will retain even more water than I do now. I had a Marker Test where they took pictures of a pill as it moved through my intestines and the result said that it took 65 hours. During this time, however, I had continued my life as usual- I had taken Miralax 6 times (once in the morning and once at night) and the pill had still taken 65 hours to move through my body. It seems as if my digestive system has almost completely shut down. My question is this- What could have caused this? Is it reversible or treatable? Is there some kind of surgery to fix this? I am desperate for answers. I hope you can help.

Hi...you may be suffering from lazy bowel...but yes with some diet modification and medication it can be improved to quite an extent...though the exact diagnosis will be after your capsule endoscopy report...you may try tab levosulpride twice daily along with a high fiber diet like bananas, whole cereals, oats...as i noticed that you are hardly eating anything except for tea/coffee and water, so when there is no solid input, how can you expect output to be solid...initially you may need laxatives but i m sure that after sometime following my diet its need vl reduce...give it a try...
