Suggest Treatment For Fluid In Lungs

I am very concerned for my step father. He went in for bypass surgery on January 27th and the next morning he was having trouble breathing and the nurse said he aspirated and they had to take him to ICU and put him on the ventilator to breath for him and keep him sedated. Well he was on the machine until this past Friday 2/7/14 then they did a trach tube to get him to breath on his on to build his lungs up but our problem is when we are they he is doing fine breathing with out the machine and for about 4 hours but when we leave the NURSE says he gets upset and agitated and they have to sedate him again. Now they say he has fluid again on his lungs. We do not know what to do and why this is happening

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Fluid in the lungs could be because of several causes. One of the causes is infection. Another cause is cardiac failure. Various conditions of the kidneys etc can also cause fluid in the lungs.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
