As such there is no harm of getting third molar extracted, its just a vestigial part & has no role in mastication.In most of cases it needs extraction because of impaction. Its just a myth that extraction causes loss of vision.There is no relation between them.There are certain post-extraction effects like-
-Post-op pain
-Swelling
-Difficulty in opening mouth
-fever
But you need not worry all these will subside within week after taking medication & having certain precautions.You may take amoxiclav-625 twice a day along with zerodol-sp thrice a day & multivitamin also.You need to do warm saline rinses 24 hrs after extraction at least 3-4 times a day for faster healing.

The risks of losing your sight from an extraction of third molars is close to impossible.
Most common side effects of third molar extractions are temporary:
-Swelling
-Bleeding
-Pain
-Bruising
-Stiffness in Jaw

Less likely side effects
-breaking of parts of jaw requiring the bone to be smoothed with a file....pieces of bone this big: { }
-numbness or loss of feeling in the lower lip (1% chance with 0.1% being permanent)
-infection
-alterations in the sense of smell or taste (highly unlikely)
-breaking of the roots requiring more invasive surgery (if this occurs you wouldn't even know when they were doing it)
-TMD
-Death (most often associated with inhaling the extracted tooth into the lungs-we use precautions to prevent this) or allergic or physiological reactions to heavy sedatives used in sedation cases.

I have extracted hundreds of wisdom teeth in the past year and only one had numbness from the surgery due to the close approximation of the IAN and they recovered within two weeks time. I've had three infections but that was due to patients poking at the extraction sites with dirty fingers. The rest healed and recovered without incident.

Here if "no room for wisdom teeth" is an accidental finding while routine check up & if you don't have any symptoms related to your wisdom teeth you can delay extraction as many patients carry impacted wisdom teeth in their jaw without any problem.
Yes.. if it is showing symptoms like pain ( even pain in any teeth on that side )or swelling or if you have difficulty in mouth opening, then you can go for surgical removal of the same teeth by oral surgeon.
Forget side effects like loss of sight as this is not possible even in most complicated procedures of surgical removal of wisdom teeth.
Post operative swelling, pain, discomfort in mouth opening may happen but all these are temporary & get resolved within 7 days.
One thing you can get cleared from your dentist whether that impacted wisdom teeth is in proximity of nerve or not. If it is very close to it, patient generally feels parasthesia or loss of sensation on small part over affected side. Even it will get back to normal within a few months.

your doctor is giving a good suggestion. dental extraction does not affect eye sight , though i must say i ahve come across many people of the same opinion. and lastly you will be relieved of any future pain due to this tooth as it won't be there anymore. take care

There is no harm in extraction of wisdom teeth. Loss of sight by dental extraction is a long time myth. There is no reality in it. Surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth can cause swelling which would resolve in 10 days time. Post extractions provided by the dentist should be followed appropriately.

Hi, there is nothing to worry. There are many myths regarding sight getting affected and other problems. Such problems do not occur. Extraction is necessary to prevent the teeth getting decayed, cyst formation which may even cause weakening of jaw bone and fractures etc. Pain may subside within 2-3 days after removal of teeth. Extraction of wisdom teeth is necessary otherwise it will be impacted and stuck inside your jaw and cause terrible pain and discomfort. It won't cause loss of sight in normal circumstances. Pain will be slight and also slight bleeding which can be controlled by pressure cotton applied and also eating cold food for a while.
