What Is The Cause For Mild Renal Cortex Thinning?

Just doing a little research before my appt today with the nephrologist. My pcp ordered a ua after I was dxd with osteoporosis @ 54 yo. My Gfr was 56 and my creatinine is 1.03. She ordered a kidney ultrasound which revealed mild renal cortex thinning. I have hypercholesterolemia managed well by tricor. Otherwise no chronic health conditions. No diabetes and my BP is great. Family hx of diabetes and htn, but not me. No chronic use of any pain relievers. I do have hx of erythema multiforme. This was the sickest I have ever been. What cou D be the cause of the thinning? Is it ever idiopathic?

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The mild thinning of the renal cortex is just a physiological variation and is not worrisome if the renal function tests are normal.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
