Brief Answer: You need orthopedic consultation. Detailed Answer: Hi, I have read your query. One thing you must know is that, there's no way to say exactly when your shin splints will go away. It depends on what's causing them. It usually takes more than 5-7 months to heal. You must consult orthopedic surgeon who will advise you x-ray of affected leg in AP and Lateral view and do your physical examination. Then he will tally reports and act accordingly. He may advise you tab. aceclofenac+serratiopeptidase. He may advise you orthosis and insoles as these help to offset bio-mechanical irregularities, like pronation, and help to support the arch of the foot. You should do exercises for strengthening muscles once pain has subsided, focusing on lower leg and hip muscles. These are uploaded on you tube. You should consider running on other surfaces besides asphalt, such as grass, to decrease the amount of force the lower leg must absorb. The most important thing that you should not rush back into your sport till 6 months. If you start exercising before your shin splints have healed, you may hurt yourself permanently. You should always wear shoes with good support and padding, warm up before working out, making sure to stretch the muscles in your legs. At-last I would like to say that you should have regular follow up with your doctor for about one year. I hope it helps. If you have found my answer excellent, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer 5 points for me, so that I get a good feedback.
