Thanks for your query. The most common cause is abnormal posture, wheter due to issues with the mattress, or degree of elevation of the pillows; one simple trick that even worked for me for such problem is to sleep without a pillow so that your neck is in a 90 degree neutral position; if you think abaout it when we are awake we get a stiff neck if we keep the same position for long.
