12 Year Old With A Swollen Lump With Itching On The Hands. What Are These?

Hi, I have a 12 year old daughter that has a swollen lump that itch on both of her hands. One is in the palm of her hand and the other on the top of hand. 2 or 3 weeks ago it started with a lump on both legs. One raised swollen bump with little bumps that itched really bad on the back of leg and one on the front on the other leg. The ones on the leg are gone away and now they appeared on my hands. What could it be, because they hurt and itch really bad.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

A slightly raised itchy lesion can be a fungal infection. However a fungal infection will not go by its own as mentioned by you. I suggest that you apply calamine lotion and observe. If there is no improvement then it shall be better to consult your doctor and, if required, start with an anti-fungal ointment.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Dr. Praveen Tayal's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The painful and itchy lumps on the hands could be related to an allergic reaction or eczema. A direct examination of the area is needed to find out the cause.
She can apply medicated calamine lotion for the time being for symptomatic relief.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. You can consult me again directly through my profile URL http://bit.ly/Dr-Praveen-Tayal
