What Cause Stomach Cramps And Bloating?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Feb 2014
Question: I am unable to fasten and wear bras due to my stomach. When I do, my stomach gets very cramping and it gets worse throughout the day. I get gassy, bloated. :( What would be the cause of this? I also am unable to wear anything around my stomach that is remotely snug. I am very skinny so weight is not an issue. I can fit into anything and of course I get the right fit to clothes but my stomach does not like anything restrictive, not even a little. It's been like this for several years but continues to get worse in terms of my tolerance to wearing certain things. I've been unable to figure this out. I do have a dull ache in the upper right part of my stomach. I also get crampy to the point where I am immobile after I eat certain foods. Not sure if all related or just an extreme, and I mean extremely sensitive stomach?? My mom just had surgery for malrotation and the dr. said it is hereditary. Would this be a unlikely but possible cause?? Thanks so much for any help.

Brief Answer: I don't think it is due to malrotation Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing to us I don't think your problem is due to malrotation. According to your history, most likely it is due to gastric ulcer. You need proper clinical examination by a surgeon and need few investigations. Investigation include routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile,Upper GI endoscopy,Ultrasound of abdomen.Further investigation can be done if needed. Upper GI endoscopy can exclude many conditions. At present you can take tablet pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before food for six weeks. You should avoid hot and spicy food. Proper treatment depend upon clinical examination and investigation reports. Get well soon. Hope i have answered your query. Further queries are most welcome. Take Care Dr.Indu XXXXXXX

Thanks so much for your advice! I have been having back pain as well for the last week and a half to accompany the upper right dull ache under my right chest area. Today, the back pain was very painful. It has varied on the pain scale but today wasn't fun. :( I also had/have a tight sensation in my chest, almost like someone is standing on me. Also, the pain in the upper right area was a bit more achy as well today when the chest and back pain were present. Could these symptoms be related to the ulcer as well? My Dr. suspected gallbladder back in XXXXXXX when I began my first muscle spasm, that was very visible, under my right chest area. Since XXXXXXX I have had three more of those spasms. I had an ultrasound in XXXXXXX but all came back normal. Could it just be an ulcer or something more? What happens if I just ignore the possible ulcer? Will it go away? THANKS SO MUCH for your help!!!

Brief Answer: You need proper clinical examination. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing back Upper GI endoscopy will detect gastric ulcer.Bloated feeling is most likely due to acidity,so you can take tablet Pantoprazole as advised earlier. Back pain may be due to many reasons. It may be due to unaccustomed position, disc prolapse etc. You need proper clinical examination and investigations. MRI of L/S spine can diagnose disc prolapse. Besides other investigations you need serum calcium and vitamin D level,Thyroid function test,ECG in all leads,Chest X-ray(PA view). You shouldn't ignore if ulcer is detected. You should take medicines regularly. It is a curable disease. For back pain you should take rest. You can take analgesics and muscle relaxants like tablet Tizanidine for 5 days.Hot compression is also very helpful. Get well soon. Hope i have answered your query. Thanks so much!! I feel as though these symptoms are related somehow. My Dr. prescribed famotidine. Would that be similar to what you said to take? I have yet to take it as I always worry about side effects. I feel like this could be gallbladder related. He believes it could be too but is trying to rule out ulcer first before testing. Do you thing gallbladder disease at all??

Brief Answer: Both Famotidine and Pantoprazole is for acidity. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing back Famotidine is also for acidity. You can take either Pantoprazole or Famotidine. Don't worry, these are safe drugs. You can take this. Some times gall bladder calculus also causes acidity. Ultrasound is very sensitive for detecting Gall bladder calculus,so you should go for Ultrasound of abdomen. Get well soon. Hope i have answered your query. Further queries are most welcome. I thought I'd ask you one more question, as you are quick to respond and I truly thank you for that!!! After some meals, even smaller ones really, I have very thick white foam-like liquid that comes into my mouth. It can happen up to 15 times after I eat. If I don't have liquid come up, I burp very loudly. I am ALWAYS hungry too even after I eat. GERD related? Will that famotidine help with this? How long until I see results? I failed to mention this to my Dr. He asked me if I got wet burps and I didn't know what he meant so I said no...now I do and I have had these for quite sometime. Because of the strange pain too under right breast, could I have a hiatal hernia? Sorry, I sound like broken record asking similar questions over and over again...

Brief Answer: Take combination of Pantoprazole and Domperidone. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing back Burping is also related to acidity,so you need proton pump inhibitors for control of acidity. In your case,i think combination of pantoprazole(40 mg) and domperidone(10 mg) twice daily before food for six weeks will be more helpful. It can take up to two weeks to show results. For confirmation of GERD and gastric ulcer you should have upper GI endoscopy. Get well soon. Hope i have answered your query. Further queries are most welcome. Take Care Dr.Indu XXXXXXX
