Hi my son had fall down on hard tiles flooring 2 weeks ago. He looks fine no bleeding , no fever or any other bad symptoms. But after 4 days he had a big soft lumps on his head. Have go to see doctor 2 times and it says is fine. I m just too worried. Is there anything I can help him to heal the bumps? I need some advise. Thanks

The lump is due to collection of blood under the skin. This gets absorbed after some time. There is no need to do anything. If he has headache with/without vomiting you may have to take for a CT scan to rule out any problem inside the head. Otherwise you need not worry..

Pediatrician Dr. Sumitra Kumar Mukherjee's  Response
Dear hueyl 178 You have not mentioned the age of the child. What history you have given

it sounds like your son got collection of blood under the scalp which is called haematoma.

If you are not happy I agree you shoud see a Paeditric Orthopaedic Surgeon. The effect of head injury

may be delayed. Some times this cause collection of bood under duramater (covering of the brain)

which is called subdural haematoma. There is another worry- depressed fracture of the scall.

Your son should have X-ray skull MRI scan of the brain to exclude those conditions. As regards

the haematoma of the scalp that can be aspirated aseptically. I wish your son gets speedy recovery.

Kindest regards Df. S.K.Mukherjee
