Is Simvastatin An Appropriate Alternative Of Cholestyramine To Decrease Cholesterol Level?

Have been taking Welchol or generic, Cholestyramine to lower my cholesterol. Both are quite expensive. Doctor has recommended simvastatin as lower cost and more effective. Never took a statin. What is your opinion as to what is best for the body? What are side effects, particularly long-term?

Hi
I read your question and would like to say that simvastatin is a better option to treat hypercholesterolemia.
So if i was your treating doctor would suggest to use statins.
Best regards.
Dr. Benard
