What effects does Epilim and Tegratol has in blood components? I'm trying to relate why patients on these medications are given iron supplements
Epilim is sodium valproate and tagretol is carbamazepine. Sodium valproate can cause decrease in platelets count on chronic use. Carbamazepine can result in bone marrow suppression in some susceptible persons so decrease in blood counts can occur. Usually iron folic acid supplements are given with as they also cause change in metabolism of folic acid. So folate is usually five with these drugs.

Is Epilim 300chrono as a mood stabilizer for treating severe depression in bipolar 2 successful. All research indicates success with mania but not depression.
Hi. You are right. Valproate is more effective in bipolar 2 who are rapid cyclers and have a first episode of mania. They are less effective in depression but augment other medications.

I'm on 2nd week of Epilim with dosage of 200mg x 1day + 200mg x2 at night. I feel instant settled in feelings after 2-3days but still easily tearful, agitated a
It would have been useful if you mentioned why you were prescribed it. Epilim has different uses like epilepsy, migraine prevention, mood disorders etc. However the dosage you are at for the moment is still low, lowest dose is usually 900 mg/day, so until you reach a full therapeutic dose it can't be considered ineffective, the dose will have to be increased.
