Is Gabapentin Appropriate Medication For Sharp Pain Following A Broken Collar Bone?
my mom had a fall and broke her collar bone about two mos ago but right after that she developed shingles due to nervousness from the fall she was in pain, she is still in pain on one of her legs she gets sharp shooting pains is the medicine gabapentin the right medication for this
The kind of pain your mother is experiencing is most probably a neurological pain (due to nerve irritation). Gabapentin does help in relieving pain due to nerve irritation . Make sure that you also take Methylcobalamine 1500 mg/day.
In case this medication does not relieve her pain completely then a better alternative would be a Pregablin and Duloxetine combination.
Short course steroids under strict supervision also helps.
Make sure you find out the cause of this pain. Get a NCV ( nerve conduction velocity) test of her painful leg.
I hope my advice has helped. Good luck
