Hi,
the kind of headache you describing is certainly a primary headache. The commonest unilateral headache type is a migraine headache. Treatment usually ranges from simple analgesics, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, ergot alkaloids and selective serotonin re uptake inhibitors. Tension headaches in your case could also be a possibility with involvement of next muscles.
However, other key questions in the clinical evaluation including tearing, nausea or vomiting and nasal symptoms. A proper diagnosis with appropriate drugs are usually associated with satisfactory clinical outcomes.
Clinical evaluation by your primary care physician is a necessary ingredient in making a clear cut and comprehensive diagnosis.
Thanks and hope this helps,
Luchuo, MD.
