my age is 43 at the age of 40 I got periods stopped I have little thyroid doctor said it is premature menopause tell me the precaution.
Hi, Thanks for the query. To confirm menopause, get your FSH, LH levels done. If they are elevated indicates menopause. If not then you need further testing for cause of absent periods like hypothyroidism, ovarian cysts, increased prolactin etc. Hope this was helpful. pls Doc what is the meaning of prolactin?
Prolactin is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland in the brain. It is the hormone that causes milk production in the breast. Both men and women have the hormone. If there is a tumor in the pituitary gland, the blood levels of this hormone can be elevated. This can be treated. Hope this answers your query. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them.
Does the risk of having a heart attack increase with a histerectomy or menopause?
Hello and welcome to HCM,
The risk of heart attack is not related to hystrectomy.
Menopause is associated with fall in levels of estrogens and progesterone.
Estrogens have a protective effect on the cardiovascular health.
After menopause this protective effect is lost and the female is at similar risk for cardiovascular diseases as their male counterparts.
Thanks and take care
