hello I am from chennai india.. my daughter was born with a Port wine stain on almost half of her right side of the face. she is 13 yrs old now. we have nt yet done any treatment for her. we had got a CT scan done when she was 2 yrs old but fortunately doctors said all was normal. As she s nearing adulthood i want to know procedures for treating it through laser which i suppose is the best treatment for it. please advise. Mrs. Talat Syed

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi Mrs Syed,

Thank you for your query.

You must have noticed that the port wine stain which is present from birth must have reduced in size over the years. My suggestion would be to wait till your daughter is beyond 18 years to consider treating it. The dertmatologist and plastic surgeon will take the decision on the type or procedure to be done as it will depend on the extent, depth of the stain. Without seeing the lesion it is difficult for me to give a definite suggestion. May be it is too small which can be camouflaged by cosmetics.

I hope I have responded to your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter all the best.

Regards,

RKK

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi Mrs Talat Syed.
I appreciate your concern for your daughter,
Capillary malformations commonly referred to as port wine stain is commonest type of vascular malformation. which sometimes is associated with other abnormalities as well.but in your case there is no involvement which is very good.
Regarding treatment PDL(flashlamp pumped pulsed dry laser)surgery is the treatment of choice.
I advise you to consult pediatric dermatologist or laser specialist for evaluation and intervention.
Wishing your daughter good health.
God bless.
