Hysterectomy. Ovary Removed. Surgical Menopausal Symptoms. What Can I Expect?
hello I am 38. I've had a long drawn out miserable endo history that has finally ended with a hysterectomy with left ovary removed plus extensive level 5 disease cut out. This was in March this year. My symptoms have reappeared in the last two months. At my Gynae appt today it was decided my right ovary should come out as soon as possible. I've booked this for October but I am so scared about what may happen to my body with surgical menopause symptoms. I have a healthy lifestyle and I'm fit. Will I turn old overnight? I think this is my main concern, getting wrinkly, cranky and hard to live with! I know this is selfish but i'm quite upset at the thought. I've read some posts from other hyster sisters and some my age have had little to no symptoms. Is there any way of knowing how your body will react? Any information would be greatly received. Thank you
Hello, Thanks for posting your query on health care magic. Ovary is the main site of estrogen synthesis. Since both the ovaries are being removed, in your case, you may experience some symptoms of estrogen deficiency. Body also synthesizes estrogen from fat. You may not experience menopausal symptoms straight away. It is a gradual process. If you experience menopausal symptoms, Hormone replacement will help.
Hope this helps. regards, Dr Nilofer
