Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

At this age, low potassium is usually due to drugs or diet.
It is transient / easily correctable – once the level is corrected and the cause identified and treated – no problems for the future…
There could be other reasons also - for confusion...
The treating doctor alone can suggest further based on his assessment of the situation.

Take care
Wishing all well
God bless
Good luck
