You didn’t mentioned what sugar level you have. It matters in management.
If it is not too high, you can control it by diet control and exercise.
If it is not controlled, then oral hypoglycemic agents are given.
If it is still uncontrolled or very high then insulin injection is given.

I suggest you to get your husband blood for HbA1c and if it is above normal level then i would advice him to be in medication along with sugar free diet .
If blood sugar level keeps maintained with AntiDiabetic Drug then he will see be fine by another 2 months ..
Check sugar level in 15days after medication to prevent Lowsugar.
