Lower Acute Stomach Pain And Back Pain, Vomiting. Breast Feeding. Treatment?

My Wife is frequently reporting lower acute stomach pain and back pain from 3 hours. She is also vomiting and has vomited 4 times mostly liquid. I am pharmacist and I have few medicines with me now. Please note that she is breast feeding a baby boy. Please suggest what would be appropriate therapy to take care of her for time being.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Lower abdominal pain and back pain is usually caused by urinary tract stones, urinary track infection. Ovarian cyst or uterine problem should be also considered.
With urine problem, frequent urinating and burning while urinating can be also present. Fever can appear.
Sometimes lower abdominal pain on the left side is caused by diverticulitis, however this condition is possible only if constipation has been present before.
Right lower abdominal pain and vomiting should be always checked with appendicitis.

I suggest your wife to visit your doctor and have blood work, CRP, urine analysis and abdominal ultrasound performed.

Hot bath can give some relief in a meanwhile.

Hope this will help.
Regards.

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Anju Choudhary's  Response
hi there, lower abdominal pain with vomitting points to gastroentritis and could be due to food poisioning or due to water borne infection. For the time being do not give her any medication but plenty of fluids in the form or ORS and fruit juices. She may be very weak so it would be wise to put the child on top feeds for the time being till she is better again. If the symptoms do not subside in 24 hrs or if she is too weak then you may need to take her to the ER and get her stool exam done. She may be given antiemetics then. Usually these conditions are self limiting and she should feel better in 24 hrs. Just take care that she does not get dehydrated. Take care.
