Is the total cholesetrol count a more serious parameter for an cardiac problem or is it the ratio between the bad cholesterol (LDL) and the good cholesterol (HDL).My total cholesterol is 241 and I am very worried about this.

Both the parameters are key. It is not only about LDL and HDL ratio but also the total cholesterol count (the absolute value). If this is over 200, it is a serious matter irrespective of however healthy and normal your LDL to HDL ratio is.
