I plan on getting life insurance soon and id have to do a blood test. I know they will check for nicotine. I am an occasional smoker, i'll have maybe 2 or 3 a week. sometimes less, sometimes more. wanted to know how long nicotine stays in your system and if there is a way to get rid of it.
Nicotine and its metabolite cotinine can be detected in the blood for two to four days. Since you are only an occasional smoker, I am sure it will not be difficult for you to avoid smoking for a few days. I would suggest a week's abstinence to be on the safer side as metabolic rates vary from person to person. Please also avoid exposure to second hand smoke. Taking lots of water may help hasten the excretion of nicotine from the body.
Best wishes.
