What Is The Home Remedy For Infection In Nail?

My daughter has a nail infection on one of her nails, had puss, and we were able to extract the puss, but the red, swollen area has not gone away, and she is starting to get the infection on another finger right next to the original one. We do not have insurance right now as I was the main insurance carrier and am in between jobs. I am looking to find at home therapy before having to go to the Dr. We have been soaking the finger in warm water with Epson salt in it. any suggestion would be helpful! Thanks

Hi,

I can understand your concern for the painful infection in nail in your daughter.

It appears form your query that you have developed infection in the area with inflammation at the affected region. This area is quite common to get infected very easily because of high bacterial proliferation. Do not try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem and spread of the infection.

For time being period you can apply antibiotic cream such as fucidin or mupirocin and give pain killer tablets such diclofenac or paracetamol. If it is increasing despite the treatment then meet a dermatologist or any family physician and get a proper treatment without delay for the oral antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin or cefadroxyl 500 mg two times a day for 5 days to prevent secondary infection.

Take care.
