Hi, I am 52 years old and have high blood pressure, weight in today at 243 and I just took my blood pressure to see how it is and it is at 125/83 but the pulse is at 111. I have been trying to donate blood but I can not becuase of the high pulse rate and this is at rest. I am not stressed and I am calm. What should I do?
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. May be due to . 1 Obesity is the main cause of tachycardia ( increase heart rate ) .As you mentioned that at rest heart rate is 111 / minute , pretty high. If heart rate is more than 100 / minute , call as tachycardia . Tachycardia dependent block,a disorder of impulse conduction in which impulses are blocked at rapid rates or short cycle lengths because of incomplete recovery or refractoriness or voltage dependent recovery of excitability. Tachycardia induced cardiomyopathy. In this case there develops weakening of the myocardium due to prolonged period of fast heart rate ( as may be in your case).
At the age of 52 years, with tachycardia and obesity is concerning. You need to investigated with EKG and echo to isolate the case .I would recommend you visit a cardiologist at the earliest & sort this problem. Good luck. Dr. HET
