Lump In The Groin, Could This Be Hernia?

My 84 year old father had a lump the size of a small grapefruit when he lays down is when you could see it he finally went to get it diagnosed they did a cat scan and said it was not a hernia but a mass was there and they want him to do biopsy I know he doesn't want to do it and if it does hurt him what are you suggestions on what it could be it is by his groin area

hi, groin lumps can be due to hernia, lymph node mass or tumor. if it is a lymph node mass, it can be due to infection or tumor in the areas drained by the lymph node (thigh, leg, foot, penis, anus and buttock). biopsy would confirm whether it is infection or tumor, then search for primary infection source or tumor begins. node biopsy can be a needle biopsy or open biopsy (small nick to remove whole or part of lump). usually under local anesthesia, not painful, outpatient procedure. also remember to get his prostate checked.
