Thanks for posting your query here.

You have not mentioned about the current age of the your son.

As I understand, his Hb level at 3 months was 9.7 and currently it is 11.2.

Please be reassured, this Hb is just slightly lower than normal range. It should improve with adequate intake of iron and folic acid (prescribed as Syrup by your doctor).

All the babies usually have a slight decrease in Hb levels around 3-6 months of age and then it picks up again (due to the way blood is being produced in babies body).

I hope I have been able to resolve your query.

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

You did not mention your child present age as the normal range for hemoglobin level varies with the age.

The hemoglobin level of 11.2 is an acceptable level for your child and the doctor has supplemented with medication to increase this level a bit more.

Nothing to worry and continue the syrup and folic acid as advised by the Pediatrician.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

There is some thing called physiological anemia of prematurity.

A premature baby may have a low hemoglobin level because of various factors. (recurrent blood sampling, low requirement, low stores of iron because of prematurity etc)

What is the age of your baby?
This would determine the next action that has to be taken.

Please reply so that we can help you better.

Take care.
