Lump On The Bottom Of The Foot. Painful To Walk. Reason?

I have a bump on the bottome of my foot, right in front of my heel. Its been there for approx 3 months and is painful to massage and somedays painful to walk on, especially if I go barefoot. At first I thought it was just a bruise, but it does get some puffiness. When its particularily sore, the it settles down but never completely goes away. I'm 44 female, don't smoke, don't wear high heels much, average weight.
