Gastric Trouble After Having Lap Band Surgery. Frequent Vomiting, Reflux Symptoms, Pain In Stomach And Chest. Suggest

HI, I have been experiencing gastric trouble for many years. I had lap band surgery in 2001 and have had problems since then. I vomit frequently. I have had to have the opening in my stomach opened twice this summer. Now I am having gastric reflux symptoms that have gotten really bad. my stomach and chest hurts. Some times the only way I can make it feel better is to make myself vomit. I just camd home from hospital - thought it might be my heart but all tests came out fine. I am in severe pain and have been having a hard time eating anything. IMy gi doctor has called in several drugs but nothing has been very helpful. any suggestions?

Hi, thank you for posting.

Well, your complication is related with lap band surgery, and it has developed gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This is caused by esophagus expand, because when the band is to tight and you eat to much it has the capability to expand.
Expand of the esophagus has caused gastric reflux. The liquid that the stomach contain can be passed in your lungs and this causes pulmonitis. So we can say that chest pain is caused by esophagitis and pulmonitis.
You need: 1. Blood test.
2. INR(International Normalized Ratio), to identify blood coagulation.
3. Pulmonar X-ray, to prove pulmonitis.

Until you get the results you should take anti acid, like Esomeprazole(Nexium) 40mg 2x1 a day, anti vomiting, like Metoclopramide(Primperan) 10 mg 3x1 a day.

If your situation will improve you will avoid a possible reoperation.

Take Care.
