Suggest Diet After Thyroid Removal And Is Medication Advisable To Keep Thyroid In Normal Range?
Hi, I live with half a thyroid after(in 2007) a surgery to remove left thyroid lobe due to a colloid goiter. Currently I am not on any thyroid medications as my thyroid levels stay in the normal ranges. However, I got to know that the remaining part of my thyroid gland has grown little bigger than the last year. I am very concern on the foods that I eat and I only have few green stuff to eat after excluding all brassica family foods. Just wondering if I should try some thyroid medications in this condition without waiting further. Please explain my options. Thank you so much in advance!
HI. I can very well understand your concern. You have to understand that the remaining part of thyroid has grown to compensate for the the removal of half of your gland. Brassica family food if boiled or shredded can loose the substance responsible for producing goiter ( just for you knowledge). I would advise you to undergo the test of - Free T3 and free T4 and TSH to guide you whether you can take a supplement of Thyroxine, knowing how much is the goiter meaning just causing cosmetic defect or causing some symptoms.
