Experienced Heart Racing And Fatigue. Taken Prozac. Feeling Like Heart Racing. Suggestions?

I am a 46 year old female, 146 lbs and overall in good health. I go to the gym 3 times a week for a spin class , (generally average 15 miles per class in 45 minutes) for the past 3 months I have experienced heart racing and fatigue. I have had anxiety issues over the years and depression. I have taken Prozac for the past four years 20 mg. But just in the past two weeks after visiting my gyn dr and sharing with her about my heart racing she increased Prozac to 40 ng just to see if it helped with heart racing. After she listened to my heart and took my blood pressure, which was in the normal range, she recommended going to cardiologist. Last night, my Heart started racing, which felt worse then times before, it has continued throughout the night and now into today. To the point I called in sick today, which I never do! I do have an apt with the cardiologist on Wednesday. But am concerned and wondering how concerned I should be?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

The first step is to see a Cardiologist / Fast heart beats need to be DOCUMENTED by ElectroCardioGram (EKG). Standard ECG records the electrical activity of the heart, for a few seconds. It can detect the arrhythmia occurring during that time only. If the episode occurs randomly or precipitated by a specific activity like exercise, one needs Holter or event monitor.
Anaemia / Anxiety / Alcohol / Tobacco (smoking) / Caffeine (too much tea, coffee, cola) / Fever / Infection / Pain / Stress / Thyroid / Medicines like Phenylephrine used for ‘cold’; Salbutamol used for asthma and so on - may be responsible.... / At times, abnormal nerve paths in the heart (bypass tracts) or disease of the conduction system may be responsible!
Treatment needs an exact diagnosis... / ECHOcardiogram / TMT (Treadmill exercise ECG) / LABORATORY work-up – may all be necessary for further assessment and assistance.
You may even need Electro Physiological Studies (EPS)
The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.
Be in touch with your doctor - it is a question of time and you will be well.

Take care
Wishing all well
God bless
Good luck
