Pressure In Ear, Clogged Ear, Used OTC Ear Wax Removal Drops. No Pain

Two weeks ago I all of a sudden felt a clogged, pressure in my left ear. I used an over the counter ear wax removal drop for 4 days with no results. I went to the doctor, who didn t see any blockage but suggested an inner ear infection and prescribed a 10 day antibiotics . I m 4 days in on the antibiotics and I feel like the pressure is getting worse. I wake up with dry crusty ear, no wax is coming out, I don t have any pain. I m 29 and have tubes in my ears as a baby. Thank you

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I read your mail and after co-relating all facts of your symptoms, it appears as your ear was clogged by eustachian tube dysfunction and secretory otitis media. And possibility of wax is quite less.

You told about dry crust in the ear canal followed by loss of pain. It is important in your medical history as it favours secretory otitis media not wax.

I will suggest you to please consult your ENT doctor for further treatment as to avoid complication and for good recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. A K Srivastava
