Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Thanks for your query.
The term SGPT stands for Serum Glutamic Pyruvate Transaminase. This is an enzyme that is found in the cells of the liver.
An elevation in the level of SGPT alone is not a confirmation of a diagnosis of liver damage.
It may be increased due to Recent Exercise and Drugs.
It should be considered if all the liver parameters are abnormal.
my husband's blood test report shows his sgptlevel as 54 and sgotlevel as 29. he consumes alcohol daily. are the levels dangerous?
The levels are not dangerous as of now. But it definitely means that alcohol has started affecting the liver. Its high time he quits. If he quits, the levels will revert back to normal. If not, it will progress on to a point of no return, developing liver failure.
