Underwent CT Scan For Ear Following An Ear Infection. What Do The Findings Suggest?
I have had a ear infection for about two months. Treated with oral antibiotics. My ear drum is thickened and retracted so they put a tube in to drain. It had been draining green thick drainage. I had a CT that says 1. Fluid and/or soft tissue attenuation within the aditus ad antrum on the left, and partial opacification of the mastoid air cells on this side may represent otomastoiditis. No definite bone erosion is seen in the middle ear cavity to suggest the presence of a cholesteatoma. I am concerned I need IV antibiotics. Seeing ENT tomorrow

CT Scan of ear is done to check whether collection is there in the ear and also to check status of ear ossicles (bones).
n your case, the ear ossicles appear to be fine so it is just a case of chronic suppurative otitis media. Cholesteatoma is dangerous which can damage your ossicles and your hearing permanently. As it is not present, it is a good sign.
You will be needing antibiotics for treatment which maybe iv/oral as decided by the ENT specialist on clinically examining you. He would also be seeing your lab reports and deciding accordingly.
