Hello,
During the first few cycles after insertion of an IUD, there can be some pain and some abnormal discharge in between cycles. It usually subsides and if it does not, removal of the device is done. The cramps usually go away with some anti-spasmodic. She should constantly check the threads and also visit her consultant for clarification of the cause of this spotting. A sonogram or an MRI of the pelvis may be needed to ascertain the position of the IUD. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.
