Brief Answer: Requires fruther investigation Detailed Answer: If this is a new problem and your wife has never had such pains before then at her age it does require investigation. She does require a full medical history and physicial examination by your family Dr who should then arrange some further investigations which will take the form of. The constipation may or may not be realted to her symptoms. 1. A full set of blood work. 2. X-rays of the painful areas of your wifes spine. 3. An MRI and/or a CT scan of the spine. It is possible that this is a muscular pain in your wifes lower back however their are many other causes at her age that need to be excluded. I hope this information is beneficial to you and that your wife finds a diagnosis and some relief of her symptoms soon. Best wishes
