Treatment For Compression Fracture Apart From Tramadol?

Dec 10 I fell on ice and was diagnosed with an L1 compression fracture with 50 % compression. I am still needing Tramadol. I was put in a back brace at 2 months. I am considering getting a second opinion because I don't like how I am being treated and not being able to ask questions. I want to know if it's safe to have intimacy with my husband. I also want to know when I should start physical therapy.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Generally, STABLE wedge compression fractures without any neurological deficits in the legs are treated by conservative (non surgical) management (like in your case). It takes around 2-3 months for the bone and soft tissues at the site of injury to get consolidated and regain some strength. So, till this time you should avoid any forward bending movements and lifting any weights.

Consult your treating doctor and discuss about all your other issues.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
