Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm trying to determine what is causing the pain that runs down the back of my leg. It actually starts at the groin and runs down to my knee. My foot is often weak and/or burning. It's hard to sit on a toilet seat and to use the bathroom. It is also hard to stand on my feet very long. I'm only 43 but feel much older from this condition. Is this sciatic pain or stenosis or either? I also have Lyme disease so it's one big complicated mess. I just want to feel better. I have issues at the l4 and l5 and s1 with some stenosis noted earlier in the cervical region. So, what causes what and why?
I have gone through your query. Pain with burning sensation in leg is suggestive of nerve compression. Since you have mentioned you have some issues with L4,L5 and S1, it is most probably compressing the nerve coming out from there. There are chances of stenosis too. I advise you to consult a neurologist for clinical examination and MRI lower spine. In the meantime you can take NSAID like ibuprofen and Vit B12 for pain and can try lumbar support belt.
