Pain When Brushing Gums. White Spot, Inflammation. Worried

I was brushing my teeth the other day and felt a pain when I brushed my gums above my Left Canine. I floss every day, and haven t had a cavity since I had baby teeth. It has been about four days since I first noticed and felt any pain (pain is not constant or searing, I can rub my tongue over the spot and only feel some pain). When I look in the mirror, their is inflammation around a tiny white spot. The spot s size is maybe a sixteenth of an inch in length. I first thought it was a pimple , but now I think It could be part of the tooth . Also this area and inflammation doesn t start until it is about an eight of an inch about the gum line. When I was brushing I could have nicked my gums with the plastic of the tooth brush. What I am worried about is if it is the tooth will my gums grow back and cover this spot.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Pain in the gums can be due to inflammation of the gingiva , trauma at the time of brushing had caused a local injury around the tooth leading to exposed tooth surface , or it can be due to infection in the tooth that had spread to the adjacent gingiva .

I would suggest you to get a checkup done .
Take an x-ray of the tooth.
Get complete mouth scaling and polishing done .
Apply dologel oral ointment topically over the affected area .
Use chlorhexidine mouthwash gargles twice daily.

Hope this helps out.

Regards.....

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

white spots can be due to many reasons.they are
1.an apthous ulcer

2.gingival recession exposing the root surface.

3.tooth brush trauma.

4.an incipient caries.

5.localised gingivities.

Here i would suggest you to visit your dentist and get clinically evaluated.

meanwhile you can use dologel for local application in that area thrice daily.

Hope it helps.

Thanks

Hello ,

Thanks for writing your query ,

After reading your clinical history I suspect you have developed a gum boil on the gingiva present over the canine tooth.

Such lesion are caused either by physical or chemical trauma to the gum tissue or due to injury caused by hot food stuffs.

Gum boil may appear red as if filled with blood in the initial stages .
It can be cystic sac like structure filled with fluid .

If not treated in time it may undergo infection leading to formation of gingival abscess so please get the examination done by a dentist.

After clinical examination if it is gum overgrowth, it can be excised surgically followed by a course of antibiotic and analgesic will solve your problem.

If the lesion is associated with teeth then the treatment plan will vary and it may need X ray evaluation.

If the underlying tooth is infected it needs to be treated followed by gum treatment.

i hope this helps ,

Take care.

Regards .

Hello and welcome to hcm forum,

The inflammation and pain while brushing may be due to-

Gingivitis due to poor oral hygiene.
Toothbrush injury.
Deep dental caries
pericoronitis.
systemic diseases.
I would suggest you to get a thorough scaling done.
The abscess has to be drained and curetted.
Use soft bristled toothbrush and dental floss.
Massage your gums with gum tone gel.
Hope this helps.

hello
pain or brushing may be due to poor oral hygiene or you may have damaged your gingiva due to inadequate brushing technique or pressure....
now what i would suggest is that you pay a visit to your dentist and get proper oral examination to rule out any other possibility
In the meanwhile you can do following to relieve your pain and discomfort
1.levofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for 5 days
2.combiflame twice daily for 3 days
3.omnacortil 10 mg twice daily for 3 days
4.zincovit twice daily for 3-5 days
5.lukewarm saaline rinses 4-6 times daily
6.gumastringent like oracep , take a drop of it on your index finger and gentally massage the affected area after every rinse
hope this helps

hi...
thanks for the query...
dont worry... it seems to be lesion caused due to tooth brush trauma... or just an apthous ulcer...
just apply local anesthetic gel over the affected area... avoid hot and spicy foods...
have B-complex also, it will enhance the healing process...
and dont worry it should come back to normal after this...
if still persists, visit your dentist for proper clinical evaluation...
take care...
