It appears that your aortic valve is not functioning properly and your cardiologist has suggested surgical treatment for the same. Aortic valve if stenosed, does not open properly and this causes decreased blood supply. A catheter surgery is initially used to open the valve using a balloon (percutaneous valvuloplasty) and this is a simple procedure by inserting a catheter through the groin. If your aortic valve does not open significantly then open aortic valve replacement is recommended. In some hospitals they also do minimally invasive aortic heart valve replacement surgery by making 4 small holes in the chest and using robotic means to replace the faulty valve. While a very tight aortic valve may not show good results after catheter surgery and may require a valve replacement, it is best to discuss the course of action with your doctor who will be able to guide you depending on echocardiography findings.
