Painful After Taking Hip Injection. Have Hip Dysplasia And Arthritis. Help
Hi I had a hydrochlornic acid injection into my hip 6 days ago and the pain is much worse than before and I am unable to weight bear on it ?? can this injection cause such pain ?? I have hip dysplasia and arthritis in my hip and am tyring to prolong my total hip replacement as I am in my 40's ?? the pain is radiating down my thigh and into my knee and its pretty bad ?? can you pls advise ? many thanks

Hyaluronic acid injections are given into the osteoarthritic joints in an effort to improve joint pain and stiffness. This form of injections form into the category of VISCOSUPPLEMENTATION.
Viscosupplementation is usually tried in patients who do not respond well to conservative line of management with medicines and who are too young to undergo joint replacement surgery ( as in your case ).
This form of treatment will generally provide good pain relief and improved joint function for a period of 12-18 months. This is NOT A DEFINITIVE treatment for osteoarthritis. It simply delays the need for surgical intervention.
"Transient" pain and tingling sensation may be present with the injections and usually resolves spontaneously over a period of time. Use some simple analgesic antiinflammatory medications for pain relief.
If the symptoms persist, consult your treating doctor.
