What Is The Cause Of Ear Pressure, Eye Burn And Face Numbing Around The Nose And Cheeks?

I am a 45 year old woman, overweight. 5 foot 7 239 lbs. I have had migraine headaches for 20 years and take imitrex for them with good success. In february I went to the ER for a migraine that was so severe it felt like I was having a stroke, with pressure behind my eyes and in my ears, and stiff neck. I also have high blood pressure. On the ER visit they ruled out stroke by doing several neuro tests like pushing on my hands and legs, etc.and I was put on IV drugs that helped migraine within 30 minutes. My blood pressure was 155/100 that night. I take lisinopril and ziac prescribed by family practitioner and just recently went to see him and he prescribed norvasc as well. I dont have migraines anymore but very strange ear pressure like I m underwater and my eyes burn and eyelids feel droopy. Last night I had face numbing around my nose and cheeks. I cant sleep well because when I close my eyes I feel like I m going to black out and I have anxiety about my symptoms being stroke like. Please advise!

Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

I carefully read your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to an inner ear disorder or sinus infection.

I recommend consulting with your doctor for a physical exam and some tests:

- a sinus X ray study
- a sinus discharge bacterial culture
- inflammation tests (PCR, sedimentation rate).

An ENT consult would help exclude possible inner ear disorder or a sinus infection, possibly related to this symptomatology.

If all the above tests result normal, I would recommend performing a brain MRI with gadolinium enhancement, which would give more information than CT scan about your brain and blood brain vessels.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards, Dr. Aida
