what could have causing Random Fainting and low Blood Pressure ?

Hello, Today my dad (44, Smoker) was feeling sick so he walked up the stairs to go to bed when he got to the 3rd stair he stopped and fainted falling backwards where luckily my step mom was there to catch him. He has high blood pressure but before he went to go up stairs he check his pressure and it was really low. Somewhere like 57 over 39. 10 Minutes later he is ok but still lying down.... Any ideas what could have caused this? Could this be a sign of a stroke?

thanks for the query,
as you say he is hypertensive, is he on medications because the medications can always cause low bp as a sideeffect so i think it would be better if you just got his bp checked regularly at home or at his doctor's place and as for the stroke is concerned it might be a sign of an ischaemic stroke as a haemorrhagic stroke would have had high bp after the incident since he is hypertensive it would be better if you get a ct brain or an mri just to rule it out if you can afford it. because it might be a transient ischaemic attack also.take care.
