Suffering From Cold And Bad Cough, Throat Choke, Tongue Sore. Cure?

I have been sick with a cold and bad cough . I think it went into bronchitis but was on amoxacilin from my dentist while I was sick. I am getting better but still have a bad cough that brings up lots of phlem that is mostly white with a little yellow and sticky to where I get choked on it. But the worst thing is I have an extremely awful taste in my mouth like chemicals and my tongue feels funny and metallic and a little sore. Nothing helps and its getting worse. The meds were finished a week ago and this has been going on now for over a week. Please help.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,

I am Dr Sriram Nathan, an ENT consultant and at the offset let me tell you that you have nothing to worry about. What you are feeling is normal during the recovery phase of the infection.

Just a few pointers for your betterment:
1. Do steam inhalation and avoid head bath or anything cold for the next one week
2. For your cough if it is dry you may try any cough suppressant over the counter but do not drink more than one tsp at a time.
3. Start an anti reflux tablet like pantoprazole as it is the reflux which causes cough and altered taste. Your doctor will know about this
4. Start a multivitamin tablet like the zincovit which will make sure that your taste will normalize in a week or two. The antibiotics and reflux are responsible for your taste change
5. Avoid spicy and oily food
6. Do not strain when you speak and try taking voice rest. Moreover do not frequently clear your throat. Always have a glass of warm water nearby which you can take frequently whenever you feel like clearing your throat or when you feel dry.
7. If at the end of a week you are not feeling better then get a throat swab and an Upper GI endoscopy along with Chest X ray and get back to me with the report

take care and get well soon

regards

Dr Sriram Nathan
