Yellow discharge from the heel area of shattered foot. Had stitches, antibiotics. Is this normal ?

Hi, my boyfriend shattered his foot . They inserted pins and stitched him up. He was on antibiotics while in the hospital to prevent infection and was there since Wed. He was released yestereday afternoon. He called me today to let me know he was oozing some yellow discharge from the heel area and this worried him a great deal. He is afraid of getting any kind of infection. He does not have any other symptoms like fever or rash and it is not smelly. Is this normal with an open wound?

Hello and welcome to HCM
Yellow discharge is little bit abnormal form a open wound. It may be early sign of infection. But you have no fever, no rashes, no itching etc., chances of infection are less. Go and consult your doctor and get aseptic dressing done from him and rule out your query.
Precautions you have to take for caring wound are:
1. Clean the wound with aseptic solution.
2. Son't touch non sterile things on wound like hands, non sterile gloves etc.
3. Get regular aseptic dressing done as advised by your doctor.
4. Take the complete course of antibiotic.
5. Do not wet the dressing.
Hope you got your answer
