Would You Suggest Doubling The Protonix To Decrease The GERD Symptoms?

I have been taking Protonix for 1 month since diagnosed with GERD. I saw my doctor and hep rescribed Doxycycline 100mg twice a day for a double ear infection and sinusitis ( head pressure for a week ) my doctor also told me to take Ibuprofen for the pain. Should I not use the ibuprofen and use Tylenol instead. He said ibuprofen would help the swelling but I am worried about the reflux symptoms. I have a sour taste in my mouth still and feel like I have phlegm with post nasal drip. I have an ENT appointment in 4 days but am so tired of being sick. I am 26 and weigh 260lbs. Would you suggest doubling the Protonix to decrease the GERD symptoms while on the Doxycycline ? He also called in Levaquin just in case I want to stop the doxycycline. ( FYI. I am very anxious about drugs and their side effects. I usually don t take anything more than Tylenol ).

Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
If I were your doctor, I would with a history of GERD I would rather advise you something as Tramadol for pain, and serratopeptidase for swelling purpose. There is no need to increase the dose of pantoprazole( Protonix) and once a day is good enough. At the same time you should give priority to reducing your weight (which is also partially responsible for your GERD) with regular exercises which would have overall positive effect on your health including that of GERD.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
