Would A Bone Spur Cause Severe Migraines?

Our son (age 24) has had four or five concussions as a child and has suffered severe migraines and IBS causing him to be home-schooled for the last 18 months of his high school career. He was eventually diagnosed with soft tissue damage which did not show up in various S-rays, CAT scans, etc. After extensive PT (after 20-odd different meds over the years) he got better and was able to complete a teaching degree. About two months ago he was experiencing such severe headaches and neck pains he had to request a medical leave for the balance of the school year. Along with a C6 bulging disc an MRI reveals a bond spur is pressing on his vegus nerve. Currently being treated with exercises and meds to help him sleep. Would the spur cause migraines? Is surgery an option? Thx!
