Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am constantly fatigued. I have seen a doctor about it, and he ran a variety of test but found nothing. He concluded that it must be depression and prescribed medication. I tried a variety of antidepressant medication over the course of three years. None worked for me; in fact, they made my fatigue worse. What are my options? Would Adderall work for me?
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. A lot of individuals with depression have lack of energy, lack of motivation to work and chronic tiredness or fatigue as presenting symptoms. Commonly used antidepressant drugs fail to act sometimes so sometimes other drugs are used along with antidepressants to increase the chances of recovery. Adderall is an amphetamine drug and the drug can help to control the depressive symptoms especially of tiredness and fatigue but the drug is not an antidepressant. So the drug alone will not help much and instead may make the depression worse. Other similar drugs like Modafinil or Armodafinil can also be used. These drugs also increase day time activities and help in depression. Unlike Adderall these drugs are also not dependence producing drugs so can be taken safely. Visit your doctor for detailed prescription.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
