Work As Floorvinstaller. Having Pain And Swelling In The Knee. Injected Steroids. Suggest

I am a floorvinstaller n have been for 20 yrs. I basically have to kneel on the hard floor all day while sitting on my feet/ankles as there is no other way. I gave very good orthodic kneepads. my ? is my kneew are getting so bad I CANNOT work 60% of the time. my right knee in particilar hurts on the R & L outside edges if the tibia from surface of bone to deep inside the bone. there is also a hard painful protrusion about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 in below my knee cap. first they said osgood-schlatter and that turned out wrong ( my knee swells to size of softball on front then swelling continues down to ankle over next cpl days) is very hot. must ust cane to get around. next diag was patellar bursitis ,drained knee just under skin below kneecap n injected steroids. no better after several attempts and monthe of time. now I am at a point I dont trust a diagnosis cause my fam doc and ortho doc seem to think it will go away..... well it aint and has been 10 months of recurring every 5 to 6 weeks. now I am having to consider not being able to work cause it hurts so bad. even walking does now. I need help n a understanding doc that listens to my say I aint no wimp. I have workef my but off since high school n now 44. my pain is starting to be disabilatating!

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome at HCM.

I have read complete details of your question.

It looks that you are suffering from frequent knee swelling with pain.

Looking at your age & work pattern ,i feel that most probably you are having patellofemoral arthritis of knee.At this stage you need a good MRI to define pathology of knee.

You should also do following to have relief in this-

-Avoid kneeling & squatting movements.

-Do quadriceps exercises of knee-

-Take a good analgesic like advil or aleeve.

-Start taking joint supplements like glucosamine with chondroitin sulfate.

You should also have a complete examination of fluid drained from knee. This is necessary as this may point out to presence of infection(if it is there).

Hope this all will help you.

With best wishes.
